Supabase announced General Availability after 4 Years in Beta

Supabase an open source Firebase alternative built on top of Postgres announced General Availability of their platform. Supabase project was started 4 years back and they were in beta all the time. Supabase is built on top of Postgres ecosystem and Supabase team wants to make sure that their data platform is rock solid, scalable and there is no data loss. Its tagline is Build in a weekend and scale to millions.

Supabase currently hosts around 1 million database and it is increasing almost 2500 per day. Supabase adoption rate is too high compared to other commercial open source database products. Supabase not just the database provider, it is complete backend solution. It has support for Authentication, Authorization, Rest API, GraphQL support, Realtime Subscriptions, AI and Vector Embedding, Edge Functions. It also supports Role based access control, HIPAA, Data Encryption, Backup, DDOS Protection and lot more.

Supabase can be self-hosted or it can be subscribed from them or it can also be purchased from AWS marketplace. Supabase tech stack includes Postgres, Elixir, Rust, Go, Typescript.

In addition to GA release, Supabase Index Advisor and Supabase Branching also available. Supabase Index Advisor suggests which database column needs indexes. Supabase Branching is similar to Git branch, User can test the database changes before actually deploying to prod. This is an interesting feature.

Supabase is committed to open source and they promise the license will remain the same and they have no plans to change it. Supabase has a vibrant community and it is them who made it.
